Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms and conventions of real media products?
In the opening to our thriller film we used such typical thriller conventions as enigma codes and partial vision to create suspense and keep the audience interested and on edge.Picture number one is an exapmle of an enigma code,as the camera is behind the character in this shot, this provokes questions from the audience such as 'Is someone behind her?'. Also, this shot came after the main character just saw her deceased father, and as her facial expressions cannot be seen, the audience is in the dark as to what she is feeling and what is going to happen in the next shot. This shot also creates suspension as the audience is wondering whether the character will turn around and see what, or who is behind her, also the audience are asking questions as the door slams and immediatley after, the characters father appears in front of her, the question is raised of 'How did he get there?', this also raises the sense about activities of the supernatural, which is a theme we wanted to convey through our thriller opening.

This shot is another example of a way that we included an enigma code, as the audience is left wondering why the characters father has appeared and what he is going to do. We also incorporated the theme of villians into our film in a slight way, however we have developed our idea differently to in a typical thriller film, where the villian would not be related to the victim, as in our thriller the father is the 'villian' character and the daughter is seen as the victim.

The shot shown to the left is another image that uses enigma codes and also partial vision, questions would be raised by the audience as to how he got in the bath? and what is he there for?, as in the opening shots the father was declared dead. The shot is also an example of partial vision, as in our opening, the fathers head is only visible for a very short amount of time in the corner of the screen, this raises suspicion and raises the interests of the audience, making them want to watch on.
