evaluation question 3

Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Firstly, from the very first scene of our film, connotations of a typical thriller film are seen, we chose the main character in our film purposely to be a female, as this portrays the typical idea of the female being the weak, victimised, ‘damsil in distress’, and this idea is further shown as our main character is first seen crying and distraught. We also used typical male connotations when making decisions about our main male character, he comes across as being strong, dominating, and being the character that is in control. The fact that tha the male has more power than the female is shown through him playing mind games with her ad he appears and disappears around the house, and also the way that he plays with her emotions, approaching his daughter when she is alone in her room when she believes he is dead.

It was a deliberate decision to choose a father daughter realtionship for the two main characters in our film, as the male, who as the father is abviously an older character, is seen as wiser than the female and also has much more physical power, and this also supports the idea that the male is the dominant character in our film. When deciding the characteristics we decired the doctor in our thriller to have, we wanted to make him seem as serious and professional as possible, to try and highlight the seriousness of the event that is about to occur, we also aimed for the serious expressions on the doctors face to signify to the audience that the following scene will be a crucial moment in the film and was aiming to get their full attention and concentration.

Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?

One media institution we found that we thought would distribute our film was vertigo films as they specialise in low and high budget films, we particularly thought our media project belonged to this institution as such films as 'Shotgun stories' and 'Shrooms' were distributed by vertigo films and these particular films were sucessful thrillers. The link to the vertigo films website is below:

Another company that we thought would consider distributing our film is Lions gate films, the fact that they specialise in thriller and horror films would particularly suit our project and also, Lion's gate films distributed the immensly popular horror film 'Saw', and this would be a major asset if our film could be distributed by the same company. Q.4 Who would be the audience for your media product?

The picture below represents the audience that we have aimed our thriller towards, the younger generation, ages 16- 26. We chose this age range as we felt that our film had a lot that would interest this particular age group, the supernatural theme, the age of our main female character and the fact that there was a death involved. We also chose for our target audience to be both male and female, as by combining the two, we could include more features in our film and attract a wider audience. The fact that we ourselves are within the target audience age gave us a better insight into what we thought other people our age would like to see in a thriller film, and this enabled us to structure ours accordingly
